Mikael Ross was born in Munich in 1984 and initially trained as a theatre tailor at the Bavarian State Opera. His move to Berlin and his studies at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee influenced his first longer story, Herrengedeck, which he self-published in 2008. During a year abroad at the Brussels School of Fine Arts, ESA Saint-Luc in Brussels, he met the Belgian scenarist and illustrator Nicolas Wouters. They share a fascination for punk and subculture. Together they wrote and drew the graphic novel Les pieds dans le béton (2013), about two restless young men in the Berlin squatter scene of the 1980s. After two years of research in Neuerkerode, the illustrator ventured a change of perspective with his graphic novel Der Umfall (2018) and tells of the low blows and highs of a young man with a mental disability. In 2020, he received the Max & Moritz Prize for the ‘Best German-language Comic’ for his work. In summer 2024, Der verkehrte Himmel, a heated thriller about a Vietnamese brother and sister who come across a kidnapped girl, is published.

Ces rêves n’étaient-ils que des mirages dissimulant un monde seulement obsédé par le marché, la croissance et le pouvoir d’achat ? Les parents du jeune homme paraissent même nourrir, aujourd’hui, une sorte de nostalgie de l’Allemagne de l’Est, d’avant la chute du mur, lorsqu’elle était communiste. « N’étions-nous pas plus heureux, malgré un quotidien plus rude ? »…

Anja Wicki was born in 1987. She lives and works as an illustrator and comic strip artist in Winterthur, Switzerland. During her studies at the Lucerne University of Art and Design, she founded das Ampel Magazin with Luca Bartulovic and Andreas Kiener. In 2022 she published her graphic novel Novel in Ordnung with Edition Moderne (Ça ira, Antipodes, 2024). Anja Wicki has won several awards for her work. She was recently awarded the Delémont' BD prize for the best Swiss comic strip.

Lukas Bärfuss, born in 1971, lives in Zurich and is now one of the most renowned German-language authors. Politically engaged and combative, he follows in the tradition of great German intellectuals, advocating for a world where spiritual values take precedence over economic interests. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a scrap metal dealer and gardener and ran a bookstore. Bärfuss addresses pressing social issues, particularly those affecting society’s most vulnerable. His background as a playwright lends his writing a distinctive rhythmic intensity, resulting in a striking sense of realism.

Daniel Kehlmann, born in Munich in 1975, has been honoured for his work with the Candide Prize, the Per Olov Enquist Prize, the Kleist Prize, the Thomas Mann Prize, and the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize. His novel "Measuring the World" was one of the most successful German novels of the post-war period, and his novel Tyll was also on the bestseller lists for months and made it onto the shortlist for the International Booker Prize. Daniel Kehlmann lives in Berlin.

Reinhard Kaiser-Mühlecker was born 1982 in the Krems Valley, Austria. He studied in Vienna and runs the family farm. Kaiser-Mühlecker has won numerous awards for his literary work. Siegfried Lenz said of Kaiser-Mühlecker's work, "wonderful the way you write" and Peter Handke sees him "in a row with Stifter and Hamsun".

Antje Rávik Strubel is the award-winning author of the novels Unter Schnee (2001), Fremd Gehen. Ein Nachtstück (2002), Tupolew 134 (2004) and the episodic novel In den Wäldern des menschlichen Herzens (2016). Kältere Schichten der Luft (2007) was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize, Sturz der Tage in die Nacht (2011) was long-listed for the German Book Prize. Strubel was selected as the first Writer in Residence at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. In 2019, she won the Preis der Literaturhäuser. Her novel Blaue Frau (Blue Woman) was awarded the German Book Prize 2021. She is also a sought-after translator from the English and the Swedish. Authors she has translated include Joan Didion, Lena Andersson, Lucia Berlin and Virginia Woolf. Antje Rávik Strubel lives in Potsdam.
