Bernhard Schlink, 1944, lawyer, lives in Berlin and New York. His first novel Selbs Justiz was published in 1987; his 1995 novel The Reader, translated into over 50 languages, awarded national and international prizes and filmed in 2009 by Stephen Daldry with Kate Winslet under the title The Reader, made him famous worldwide.
